Position description

The University of California-Irvine's Department of Radiological Sciences is offering an Assistant Researcher position in the TRUE Imaging Lab, led by Dr. Shawn Xiang. This non-tenured, academic term position is ideal for candidates aiming to transition from a dependent researcher role to a tenure-track independent investigator. The lab is a leader in radiation-induced acoustic imaging, with a focus on developing innovative solutions for cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders.

We are seeking candidates with a strong background in ultrasound physics, image-guided radiotherapy, and interventional radiology. Applicants should have a track record of successfully securing funding through NIH and other society grants, particularly in cancer treatment strategies. A proven history of imaging research, evidenced by high-impact publications, is essential.

The role involves mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, research fellows, and visiting scholars. The successful candidate will also be involved in developing medical imaging devices, creating image reconstruction algorithms, and conducting preclinical and clinical testing of these devices. Responsibilities include presenting findings at conferences, preparing manuscripts, and writing funding proposals to secure external support.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Current holder of a dependent research position.
  2. At least four years of postdoctoral experience in medical imaging device development.
  3. Deep expertise in Ultrasound Physics, machine learning, and image reconstruction algorithm development.
  4. A substantial research background, demonstrated through high impact publications and conference presentations.
