Director - Systems and Technology - Data, Artificial Intelligence and Portfolio Delivery
HYBRID: Work a combination of onsite and remote days each week, typically 2-3 days per week.

Primary Purpose

Directs teams in the delivery and support of strategic technology solutions for SoCalGas. Areas of focus include shared technology platforms, data platforms and governance, and project portfolio delivery. Collaborates with others across technology organizations and business functions to drive the development and delivery of innovative and industry leading technology solutions. Leads the development of strategies and technology roadmaps from assessment to architecture design through implementation and adoption. This includes considering organizational impacts and the management of change (MOC). Communicates the digital vision and strategy to Senior leaders. Effectively manages the financial investments in technology with the objective to of maximize the value of those investments. Effectively manages the technology lifecycle of these investments in order to minimize technical debt and cyber risk.

Duties & Responsibilities

Advance and Deliver Technology Capabilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of a broad spectrum of innovative digital platforms and solutions, including Artificial Intelligence/AI, Application and information management platforms, big data & analytics and data management platforms.
  • Leads the capital project delivery efforts across Systems and Technology. Facilitates effective capital portfolio governance efforts that emphasizes value-based prioritization while balancing the needs across multiple stakeholders and business objectives. Consistently delivers high-quality projects with an emphasis on disciplined execution.
  • Leads the delivery of responsible AI solutions in partnership with business sponsors and stakeholders. Contributes to the development of AI standards, policies, and enterprise capabilities.
  • Collaborates with others to implement the data governance program vision, promoting the role of governance and enforcing the use of common frameworks, policies, and standards.
  • Acts as a thought-leader, driving digital innovation and influencing strategic technology direction (e.g., Cloud migration, dev/ops, advanced analytics/ artificial intelligence, and agile ways of working, etc.).
  • Assesses digital footprint, developing short and long-term plans for improvements. Develops and delivers proposals and recommendations that drive understanding and buy-in for digital investments.
  • Works with key vendors and strategic partners to build a 'one team' delivery model with a focus on agility, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Represents the company at industry functions to remain current on new technologies.

  • Facilitates alignment of technology / digital initiatives and strategies with broader business priorities and opportunities through engagement and collaboration.
  • Acts as a liaison and develops effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. - Demonstrates effectiveness in problem-solving and a continuous improvement mindset as it relates to managing technology risk and optimizing operational excellence.
  • Effectively manages financial performance and communicates project updates / status to senior leadership in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with, supports, and engages with other business areas that depend on technology to support successful business outcome.

Leadership & People Management:

  • Works with the broader leadership team to build alignment and trust. Models' behaviors of authentic and forward-looking leadership, and commitment to high performance as "one team." - Responsible for departmental leadership and direction setting with a focus on collaboration and conflict resolution.
  • Directs team to ensure goals and objectives are achieved and implemented. Inspires and motivates team to reach highest potential. Coaches, mentors, and develops staff while fostering a spirit of teamwork and unity. Establishes performance plans for team. Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Information technology, management information systems, computer engineering, or IT related field. Required
  • Master's Degree MBA or Masters in the fields listed above. Preferred

Experience

  • 12 years Practical, hands-on, and deep/diverse experiences along a broad technology spectrum including systems (i.e., Applications development, web / mobile applications, batch and real-time data integrations artificial intelligence, big data analytics, etc.) Required
  • 7 years Broad IT experience: i.e., Applications Development, Project and Portfolio Management Office (PMO), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Organizational Change Management (included in the overall 12 years listed above) Required
  • 5 years Experience managing large, high-performing teams, integrators and managed services providers (included in the overall 12 years listed above) Required
  • 2 years Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure cloud solution implementation experience (both SAAS and PAAS), cloud migration experience. SAP implementation experience (e.g., ERP, Customer, S/4 HANA) Preferred
  • Experience in the energy utility industry Preferred

  • Agile Methodologies: Knowledge of concepts, including Agile Scrum and/or Kanban, and application of Agile methodology (e.g., Lean, SAFe, LeSS) for project management to be able to design, implement and manage projects. Intermediate Preferred
  • DevSecOps Practices: Strong understanding of automation and security concepts and processes (e.g., test automation, code coverage, DevSecOps, Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, etc.), and ability to drive the integration of development, operations, and security into enterprise software development. Licenses & Certifications

  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Leading SAFe Certification Preferred

Other Qualifications

  • Must be willing to relocate, if necessary, and live in the Los Angeles area.
  • Must travel regularly to both San Diego and Los Angeles locations as appropriate
  • May require 24/7 response availability or work outside of normal business hours.
  • Requires valid CA drivers license or reliable transportation.
