Position Summary:
The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its 250+ faculty and clinician members and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients.
Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with programs and proposals with broad impact across the function, research initiative, program and / or organization. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes. The Sr. Program Development Coordinator reports to the Director for the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and manages a portfolio of programs and activities at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center's (CFCCC) Office of COE with a high degree of autonomy. This includes oversight and management of COE day-to-day operations and administration; and management of the COE Community Equity Board, COE liaisons program, training and education programs, communications with internal and external stakeholders, and development of new initiatives. COE is a mandatory component of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) P30 Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and is vital to NCI's continued designation to the CFCCC. The NCI designation has a vital reputational and financial impact for CFCCC, UCI and UCI Health. Adherence to the guidelines of the CCSG is mandatory and involves ongoing monitoring of the organization for structure, direction, and fiscal management. All decisions at the CFCCC are taken within the context of the CCSG requirements.

Required:
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic research environment, medical center, community non-profit setting, or other large matrix organization.
  • Experience with large multidisciplinary, multi-component research grants (e.g., Cancer Center Support Grant) preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across UCI and the Health System (e.g., with leadership, faculty, staff and students).
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs (e.g., Microsoft Office and Adobe).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership, faculty and staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Advanced program and project management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of pertinent policies, procedures, regulations and requirements of the University of California, State, Federal, and other external agencies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Advanced ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data, to prepare with string attention to detail, sound and relevant proposals and analysis.
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Strong ability to apply and implement creative solutions to complex problems.
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in relevant field of study or business, preferred
Special Conditions Required:
  • Requires travel to the Orange campus, Irvine campus, and off-site locations for meetings/events.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.
  • Position is subject to the California DMV's "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.

Special Conditions Preferred:
  • Requires regional travel within California multiple times per year.
  • Requires annual attendance at national meetings held in different U.S. locations.
