Job Description

Job Summary: The Cath Lab Technologist works as a team member performing simple and complex diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional invasive cardiovascular and angiographic procedures in the adult and geriatric population. Operates the physiologic and radiographic equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Positions and instructs the patient for the examinations. Ensures all patient care equipment is calibrated and that operational capabilities are tested consistent with departmental guidelines and regulations. Anticipates potential safety concerns in the environment of care and intervenes as necessary. Participates in educational activities, departmental committees, and other healthcare related projects as assigned. Provides direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources. Appraises the quality and effectiveness of material and equipment and communicates to responsible individuals. Provides accurate clinical and billing documentation. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology required. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred. Minimum six months experience in a Radiology or Interventional Radiology Lab performing Diagnostic and Interventional simple and complex procedures required.

Knowledge and Skills: Capacity to sub-specialize in Radiologic Technology. Knowledge of procedures done in the Special Procedures Section of Radiology and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Ability and knowledge to handle suction device, assist in intubations of patients, and operate Ambu bag and resuscitation devices. A high regard for the dignity and worth of patients and their families. Ability to use good judgment in an emergency. Good organizational skills and flexibility. Must be able to initiate and manage a "Code Blue" situation until additional personnel are able to respond, and must be able to deal effectively with anxious, bewildered family members. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license required. California Fluoroscopy license required. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association preferred.
