Overview

For natural gas pipelines, prepares engineering designs, specifications, studies, cost estimates and the development of sound technical recommendations. Coordinates and directs development of work scope, budget, and schedule for projects and tasks. Coordinates input from, and participation with, various departments within the Company as needed to meet project objectives.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

    Develop engineering designs for high pressure natural gas pipeline replacements.
  • Develop hydrostatic test plans for pipeline segments that require a valid strength test to establish the maximum allowable operating pressure of the pipeline.
  • Specify materials and equipment for purchase.
  • Prepare project scopes, AFEs, cost estimates and proposals for all new projects, equipment sizing, modifications and related parameters.
  • Manage specific projects as required inclusive of direct supervision for construction activities and management of all contract inspectors.
  • Assist in ensuring traceability of all materials specified and used for construction.
  • Provide technical expertise to one or multiple project teams for the evaluation of, and resolution to, engineering problems and designs involving various engineering disciplines.
  • Manage and coordinate all activities leading to the successful completion of tasks and large projects including, scoping of project, cost estimates, budgeting, design and start-up.
  • Assist with preparation of applicable permit packages as necessary.
  • Coordinate with survey, land and other project stakeholders as necessary for detailed engineering design and routing of pipeline systems and above ground fabrications.
  • Prepare and maintain project budget and schedules including cost and schedule tracking reports.
  • Prepare bid documents for materials, engineered equipment, and construction within specific discipline.
  • Prepare project Bill of Materials in compliance with all company and regulatory design standards and specifications.
  • Responsible for preparation of material requisitions, bids, vendor drawing reviews to determine compliance with specifications.
  • Must clearly and concisely communicate technical and non-technical information and concepts with various levels of management in both formal and informal settings.
  • Provide direction to contractors, consultants, Company engineers, technical specialists and the remainder of the project team.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 1+ years of relevant or comparable experience in either civil or mechanical engineering.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
  • SoCalGas experience preferred.
  • Utility experience.
  • Gas experience - highly preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in U.S.
  • Utility experience is a plus.
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation is desired.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Has a foundational understanding of natural gas systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines and solve problems are essential.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Excel, Word and Adobe Writer.
  • Ability to travel as dictated by project requirements.
  • Requires high level of knowledge and experience working with pipeline design codes and safety requirements including ASME B31.4 & B31.8 as well as 49 CFR Parts 192 & 195 and CPUC GO 112.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Salary range for this position is $60,000 - $90,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
