A Brief Overview
The Manager Communications works to develop and implement strategic communication plans and messaging for the Office of Community Impact (OCI). Under leadership supervision, and in collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts, this position deploys a variety of communication channels and stays abreast of new trends and advances in digital communications and CHOP's communications capacities. The position will enhance the visibility of CHOP's impact in the community across the organization, within the local and national community, and in the healthcare industry. The Manager Communications will serve as a liaison between OCI, Marketing & Public Relations, and Internal Communications. This role reports to the Director School Partnerships in the Office of Community Impact.

What you will do

  • STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS
    Develop and implement a communications plan to support recognition of CHOP's community impact to internal and external stakeholders
    Provide writing/editing expertise and project leadership (from ideation to implementation) for content-driven communications projects
    Tailor messaging and engagement strategies to diverse audience segments including community members, donors, elected officials, and staff
    Create internal communication materials (emails, articles, town hall presentations) to drive employee engagement and keep employees informed of CHOP's community impact
    Develop new and creative ways to deliver messages through digital, video, data, visuals, printed materials, newsletters, websites, and social media
  • EFFECTIVE COLLABORATION
    Lead discussions with OCI team to create a cohesive, compelling narrative about CHOP's community impact mission, strategy, and outcomes
    Build strong relationships with leaders of CHOP community programs while providing appropriate feedback for all communication efforts
    Aid design of presentations, reports, and dashboards for key internal stakeholders (CEO Council, People Council, Board of Trustees) on the success and progress of CHOP's community impact
    Coordinate with Marketing & Public Relations and Internal Communications to ensure that all communications adhere to CHOP's brand standards
    Support OCI leadership team in maximizing their impact for speaking and communications opportunities by refining presentations, visuals, and content
  • OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
    Supervise, train and mentor staff, which may be a mixture of students, freelance support, and/or full-time staff as needed
    Represent OCI at meetings related to promotion, marketing, and communication of community impact
    Receive and incorporate insights from key metrics and outcomes to gauge the effectiveness of the communications and marketing strategy; adapt strategies based on outcomes
    Build internal communications calendar to create and manage internal campaigns and messaging
    Manage the office's intranet and ensures information is accurate and current
    Anticipate potential delays to projects and take appropriate mitigation steps
    Stay current on leading digital and printed marketing, design, and social trends to increase visibility and recognition of OCI efforts
    Proactively update communications plans as enterprise priorities and social context evolve

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years of experience in public relations, digital communications and/or non-profit, public or consumer health, cause-related marketing. Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Facility with Microsoft Office software, CMS platforms and/or HTML, and Google web management products. Familiarity with desktop publishing such as Adobe Illustrator or Quark is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Professional experience with social media, Search engine optimization, email database management
  • Interpersonal communications skills, including interaction with senior management
  • Excellent writing skills-- experience with news writing, copy-editing, fact-checking, AP and AMA styles will be valued
  • Adaptability to handle varied projects and topics as needed
