Job Description
Job Summary

The Sanitation and Equipment Supervisor oversees the sanitation and equipment function to ensure compliance with all quality management programs and food safety systems, such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in support of the Quality Assurance department. Assists in operating sanitation equipment and machinery to clean and sanitize production areas. Develops and maintains facility and equipment sanitation programs and procedures to fulfill sanitation requirements while fostering a safe working environment.

Work closely with Production and Quality Supervision and Quality Technicians & production managers to provide cleaning and sanitation process leadership and ensure effective daily implementation of key cleaning and sanitation programs and practices. Responsible for training and motivating the team to perform at their best and deliver results in a continuous process improvement environment.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties
 
  • Effectively complete tasks & supervise sanitation and equipment personnel to maintain established levels of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Clean and sanitize production areas, equipment, and food contact surfaces to ensure that all areas meet standards of acceptability.
  • Assist in the development of employees through on-the-job training.
  • Promotes, complies, actively participates, and enforces the importance of safety to help maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Conduct safety training for sanitation personnel.
  • Communicates job duties to sanitation personnel.
  • Evaluate, plan, and implement sanitation programs supporting the company’s processes and procedures, ensuring the highest quality products are produced in a clean environment.
  • Work closely to ensure SOP requirements are maintained.
  • Maintains GMP provisions and monitors associate practices that relate to cleanliness, sanitation, and pest control.
  • Conducts physical inspections of equipment to evaluate the effectiveness of sanitation efforts.
  • Ensure the proper verification of cleaning & sanitization events by enforcing proper and accurate documentation of all sanitation forms/logs.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to develop a master sanitation schedule.
  • Schedule staff to ensure that sanitation tasks are met on each shift.
  • Assist the Manager in managing staff hours within allotted budgeted hours.
  • Prioritize tasks to ensure that all plant cleaning requirements are fulfilled.
  • Oversee clean-up activities of equipment and facilities in all production areas.
  • Perform regular inventories of sanitation chemicals and non-chemical supplies.
  • Maintain repair schedules on all sanitation equipment.
  • Support management staff during sanitation audits.
  • Work to efficiently and effectively close out internal & external audit findings.
  • Participate in Pest Control activities.
  • Maintain good communication with all departments. Give guidance and feedback to all departments with regard to Flight Kitchen sanitary conditions.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide sanitation employees feedback by performing a job performance appraisal.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A BS degree in food science, microbiology, chemistry, or related field or equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated people and team leadership skills (minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience).
  • Working knowledge of sanitation practices and programs (minimum of 2 years of food industry sanitation systems management).
  • Demonstrated leadership of sanitation programs and continuous improvement.
  • Strong regulatory awareness in the food sector and sanitation.
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), COP, and CIP cleaning processes, and safe and proper chemical handling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including team building and oral communication.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts.
  • A team builder with the ability to lead and motivate diverse management and hourly staff and build a positive employee relations culture and work environment.
 
 
Experience/Education
  • B/S or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Driver’s license and the ability to pass the airport and US Customs background check
  • Working knowledge of GMP, HACCP, USDA, and FDA compliance preferred

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job operates in a flight operations environment, and this position will routinely use standard Airline Catering equipment. The facility is widely refrigerated and requires work inside refrigerated processing areas.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods and reach with hands and arms. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position.  Days and hours of work may vary depending on the needs of the business.  Must be willing to work any shift or days off as leadership assigns.
