Job Summary

This position will be responsible for planning and conducting operational audits to evaluate Information Technology (IT) systems, functions and facilities in a client/server environment at Caltech, including Campus and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The Senior IT Auditor will join a team of audit professionals serving Caltech and JPL.

Essential Job Duties

  • Plans and conducts complex operational IT audits of unit/department/division systems, processes, and controls for compliance with Institute standards and industry best practices (e.g., IIA Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, NIST, ISACA, CISA, etc.).
  • Partners with Institute management to oversee organizational controls over IT resources for compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, grants, Institute policies, and industry best practices.
  • Facilitates the development, implementation, and communication of audit policies and procedures to staff and customers.
  • Plans IT audit engagements, including developing and executing the strategy and risk-based programs; may conduct or assist in conducting investigations and analysis of suspected irregular conduct related to IT or use of IT resources.
  • Evaluates IT operations or programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and values; consults with client on ways to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Participates in producing audit schedule for project completion.
  • Through audit process, grasps understanding of unit/department/division resources and operations; assesses strengths and weaknesses of function and advises clients on methods for taking advantage of opportunities in cost reduction, process improvement, and improving operational reputation.
  • Develops and oversees the preparation of documents and materials to support conclusions for audit projects; reviews and strategizes presentation of audit findings and recommendations to management.
  • Fosters and uses strong internal and external relationships to ensure the highest level of audit and compliance services.
  • Develops, interprets, and implements highly complex IT concepts and advanced techniques for controls.
  • Promotes the use of data analytics for IT audits; uses IT-related tools effectively.
  • This position may occasionally oversee work of less-experienced IT audit staff.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • Four years of IT audit or equivalent IT experience required.
  • This position requires a criminal background investigation prior to an offer of employment.
  • The selected candidate must have necessary credentials to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory: US citizenship or permanent residency.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Windows server and desktop administration & configuration management experience.
  • ActiveDirectory experience.
  • Experience managing firewalls and routers.
  • LINUX application, security & configuration management experience (especially auditing security administration).
  • Experience with ORACLE relational databases and ORACLE Financial, Purchasing, and Human Resources modules.
  • Experience with SQL and SQL FORMS.
  • Experience with Cloud Computing systems (especially auditing security administration).
  • Experience with TeamMate workpaper software.
  • Knowledge of educational institutions and government contract/grant requirements.
  • Understanding of IT control frameworks (COBIT, ISO, NIST, ITIL).
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to identify and assess risk and exposures across a wide variety of processes.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team or independently as an individual contributor with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Certification preferred (CISA, CISSP, CIA, MCSE, CISCO, etc.).
  • Experience in higher education or aerospace is preferred.

Hiring Range

$114,600 - $130,000 per year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
