Job Description

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a UX Researcher at our Irvine, CA facility who loves to listen to users, discover what they need, and draw insights to design innovative features for the upcoming future that will impact the automobile user experience with the vehicles of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis.

With a user-centered process, you will plan, conduct, facilitate, and manage user research in the American context of use. You will support the UX design process by delivering insights from users' behaviors about their expectations and unspoken needs around the automobile context.

You are expected to have a solid understanding of UX design principles and research methods. You demonstrate a process-based product research-through-design with evaluative and generative design methods as well as qualitative and quantitative human research methods. You will demonstrate design thinking that links marketing, engineering/technology, and social/human science with the holistic approach to design in a fast-paced agile environment for the new mobility transition period involving electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and innovative transportation solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Team player: You'll support a team culture of empathy and understanding of user needs & desires while balancing business decisions
  • Design thinker: You will move fast with listening, ideation, prototyping, and evaluation through the iterative UX design process and in Agile practice.
  • Human-centered researcher: You will moderate qualitative user studies to understand users' behaviors, needs, and goals through preliminary context-of-use research such as design ethnography, contextual inquiry, in-depth interviews, and participatory design.
  • Data-driven researcher: You will design quantitative user research with literature/previous works/competitors review, research design, survey/experimental instrument design, data curation & analysis plan, and findings into the design insights for applications to improve Vehicle UX.
  • UX design researcher: You will utilize the insight from the research to develop UX design solutions and test the design concepts by persona-scenario, low-fidelity & high-fidelity prototypes, and user-testing.
  • Excellent Communicator: As a UX researcher, you excel in communication about research data and design ideas for internal and external collaborators. Well-organized; excellent verbal, written, AND visual communication. In addition, you will show the ability to guide UX writing for the interface and presentation/ instructional design.
  • Occasional domestic/overseas travel is possible for user research & tech shows up to 20% of the time.

Compensation

  • $75,000 - $100,000

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction/Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology/Ergonomics, or related interdisciplinary field
  • 3+ years experience of conducting quantitative and qualitative user research and UX design in a cross-functional product team.
  • Passion for automobile UX for the future
  • Portfolio with at least three works on UX design & research that demonstrate your direct involvement in user research, ideation, prototyping, and testing in the iterative UX design process.
  • The ability to be flexible and inventive, using analytic and creative problem-solving approaches to design research and user testing.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, visual, and presentation skills are a must.
  • Proficient skills in documentation applications such as MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
