MISSION ASSURANCE ENGINEER, LAUNCH - MISSION FORMULATION

Based out of Rocket Lab's global headquarters in Long Beach, the Mission Assurance Engineer is responsible for carrying out mission assurance activities under the Launch Business Unit. You will support the Global Launch Services organization as we build out a Mission Assurance Strategy to support future launches.

WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO:

  • Work closely with Program/Product Managers and their teams to ensure products meet requirements for mission success
  • Develop and implement mission assurance plans based on company procedures, government/industry standards, and best practices to ensure products meet mission/customer requirements
  • Develop and mature mission assurance tools and processes for managing and tracking risks, non-conformances, and component pedigree in the development of reusable hardware
  • Drive the implementation for managing and tracking risks, non-conformances, and component pedigree for the Neutron vehicle throughout product lifecycle for testing and flight
  • Provide oversight at technical reviews to ensure that products are being designed based on sound engineering principles
  • Provide recommendations to programs and products to improve launch vehicle mission assurance
  • Support test, verification, and validation planning and execution for hardware production and qualification testing
  • Ensure that contract requirements are met and that documentation is compliant with requirements
  • Define Mission Assurance Strategy for new proposals
  • Support regulatory and customer reviews as needed

YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, or other engineering degree
  • 5+ years experience in engineering problem solving in design, analysis, or test of systems
  • Experience with launch vehicles and National Security Space Launch contracts
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards, such as SMC-S-021, SMC-S-016, SMC-G-1202, LE-P-024, etc.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • Master's degree in engineering
  • Hands-on experience in launch vehicle integration and test programs
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems IS09001 and AS9100, configuration and data management, and implementation of internal and contractual quality requirements
  • Experience with anomaly investigations and root cause analysis via use of tools such as fault trees, fishbones, and 5 whys
  • Previous experience in a mission assurance, program management, or systems engineering role
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, fluid schematics, and electrical circuit diagrams
  • Understanding of USSF and NASA mission assurance requirements for launch vehicles
  • Experience with environmental testing, such as thermal vacuum or random vibration testing
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical partners
  • Active DoD security clearance

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be physically able to commute to buildings
  • Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Base salary is only one part of Rocket Lab's compensation package for this role. $117,000-$147,000 USD
